For what would it profit us to know the whole Bible by heart if we live without grace and the love of God?

GETTING TO KNOW

Dawn Dishman

Dawn Dishman

As a native of Colorado, I love to hike, ski, and dip my feet in mountain streams.

My understanding of God first started through the ministry of Cru as a college student at the University of Missouri. I received training in prayer, insight on bible study, and comprehending that God desires a close friendship with everyone, everywhere.

I remember thinking, if God could reorient my life so much by getting to know Him, there’s no greater privilege than guiding others in recognizing and experiencing God’s unconditional love.

After graduation and marrying my husband, Dave, I began working for Cru as a campus minister. 35 years later, we still serve on the staff of Cru.

After a “dark night of the soul” season, I was drawn to Ruth Haley Barton’s Transforming Center where I received a Certificate in Spiritual Transformation. Much like home improvement shows, the Lord flipped my heart as I learned new ways to open my soul to the work of the Spirit. My spiritual director was instrumental in processing this season.

I received a Certificate of Spiritual Direction through Listening People to Life from Sioux Falls Seminary. I graduated from Sioux Falls Seminary with a Master of Bible & Theology with an emphasis in Intercultural Studies.

My ministry experience includes evangelism and discipleship, teaching both small and large groups, and coaching and visiting international missionaries. I coach others in leadership development and understanding how we grow in emotional health. I enjoy leading groups in spiritual and prayer retreats where participants spend a majority of time practicing different prayer experiences.

I understand a spiritual director to be a fellow companion, one whose role is not to direct, but walk alongside through prayer, listening, questions, and spiritual practices.

As you find yourself longing for more, seeking God in the desert places, processing life changes and transitions, discerning next steps, or simply wanting to be more attuned to the voice of God, I offer you a sacred companion along your journey of life.
